Pre Lighting Season Servicing, Safety and Maintenance Checks for Ritelite’s LED Lighting & Power Products

As the lighting season approaches, now is a good time to bring your Ritelite LED lights amd RITE-POWER battery powered generators out of storage for a quick service. A few simple safety and maintenance checks will confirm everything’s charging, deploying and performing as it should so you are ready for the busy winter ahead.

Why Regular Servicing Matters

Regular routine checks are essential to help keep your Ritelite LED lighting products and battery powered systems safe, efficient and ready for use. It is important to have a plan in place so all products receive a regular inspection, test and service to ensure the following:

  • System reliability – Make sure there are no issues that will affect performance or use
  • Maximise performance and lifespan – Maintain brightness, battery health and run time
  • Maintain safety – ensure brackets, masts, cables and interlocks remain secure and compliant
  • Minimise downtime or repairs – ensure no issues when deployed

Servicing & Maintenance – where to start

Begin with a pre-operation inspection as outlined in the product user manual. This is a visual inspection performed by the operator prior to each use. The aim is to discover if anything is obviously wrong with a product before you power up or extend a mast.

For all our products the below are important to check:

  • Cables & leads: No kinks, cuts, frays, abrasions, or exposed conductors. Strain reliefs intact.

  • Plugs & sockets: Pins straight, glands tight, no heat discolouration or burn marks. Locking collars tightly in place.

  • Switches, handles, knobs & adjustment points: Move freely with positive engagement, no excessive play

  • Fasteners: Nuts, bolts and clips present and tight especially on brackets and tilt points.

  • Structure & housings: No dents, bent sections, weld cracks or signs of significant rust / corrosion. Touch up damaged paint to prevent ingress.

  • Labels & safety markings:  Rating plates, warning labels and serial numbers present and legible.

  • Battery & power (where fitted): Enclosures undamaged, vents clear, no obvious swelling or leakage. Check indicator lights and charge status.

  • Optics & lenses: Clean, crack-free lenses

Additional product specific checks:

  • Leg locking pins: Present, straight and engage fully through the holes in the legs.

  • Tyres & wheels: Check the tyres are inflated adequately  to the pressure marked on the tyre sidewall – do not exceed the stated maximum. Check for cuts, bulges and that the wheel nuts are tight.

  • Axle pivot & lock. Check the axle pivot point and locking pin to make sure it engages fully and locks positively.

  • Transit locks: All transport / transit locks fitted and engage fully.

  • Structure & critical fixings: Check all structural and other critical components are present and all associated fasteners and pins are in place and properly tightened.

Additional product specific checks:

  • Legs and feet: Intact and secure.

  • Leg locking clamp: No slip when you give the mast a gentle shake.

  • Tripod mast & controls: Mast column straight.  Handles / knobs / adjustment points engage cleanly with no excessive play.

  • Tripod Mast: Ensure the tripod is operating freely up and down and air descent is working correctly

  • Light Head: Lens clean and crack free. Tilt/ rotate joints hold position.

  • Battery pack: Free from dents, swelling or cracks. DO NOT USE if you see any damage. Contact Ritelite.

  • Battery connectors & leads: Smooth connection. Strain reliefs intact.

  • Accessories (if used) Fence adaptors / clamps / straps undamaged and hold securely.

Additional product specific checks:

  • Leg carriages: Rollers / Slide blocks run smoothly.

  • Legs: Straight with no dents. Foot pads intact. Locks engage fully with no slip under load.

  • Mast column: Sections straight and clean. No sign of dents or damage.

  • Lifting points: Clearly marked, undamaged. Warning labels present and legible.

  • Rough terrain wheel kit (if fitted) : Tyres are inflated to pressure marked on tyre sidewall. Check for cuts/ bulges.

  • Light head transit lock: Fully engaged for transport. Able to be released easily ready to deply.

  • Structural & critical fixings:  All brackets, pins, bolts present and tightened to spec.

  • Light head & lenses: Clean, crack-free lenses with intact seals so water can’t ingress

Additional product specific checks:

  • Structure & welds: No dents, bends, or weld cracks. Treat any signs of  rust / corrosion before use.

  • Light head & lenses : Clean, crack-free lenses with intact seals so water can’t ingress.

  • Critical fixings: All brackets, pins, bolts, and clips present and working properly.

Additional product specific checks:

  • Light head & lenses: Clean and crack-free, seals intact so water can’t ingress.

  • Tilt joints: Adjust smoothly and lock firmly.

  • Critical fixing: All fixings present and tighten properly.

  • Tripod (if used): Legs straight, feet intact, clamps tighten with no slip.

Additional product specific checks:

  • Catches and locking mechanisms: Lock positively. Seals compress evenly all around.

  • Enclosures: Case free from cracks, warping or impact damage. No gaps where water could ingress.

  • Vents & cooling: Air inlets/ outlets clear of dust and debris.
